Piobaireachd

Pibroch Springer SpanielPiobaireachd (pronounced pea-broch, with Scottish “ch” as in loch) is a 4-year old fully-trained working Springer whohas come into Springer Rescue with a severely fractured elbow and has undergone extensive surgery to repair it.  He will require 6 weeks cage rest and 6 weeks gentle walking and substantial rehabilitation including hydrotherapy. Due to the severity of his injury he will no longer be able to work. We will be running a Facebook auction to raise funds to pay for his care. You can read more by going to his Facebook page.

Piobaireachd’s foster carer is keeping a diary. Here are some entries:

29 January 2012 Well Piobaireachd came home yesterday. When we went to pick him up at the vet he was lying down in his kennel, the minute he saw us he stood up and we got a wee wag of the tail, my friend Anne came up with me as I didn’t know how he would be in the car and we had to keep him lying still, but needn’t have worried he was a wee star, never moved a muscle.
Home …with all his medication, he had his bandage taken off to let air at the wound and the good news is he is weight bearing on the leg already. he went into his cage no problems at all, and I fed him and my lot sausages (tip from Charles) and he went to sleep. he has not dirtied his cage once, but after all the kongs I bought he doesn;t know what to do with them although this morning, he stole one of Fudge’s tennis balls and took it into his cage with him, my lot are ignoring him which is good, he is in the kitchen but he can see everything that is going on. This morning, he had already had his tablets and been out, and we’ll see what today brings. so far so good. Thankyou to Apex vets who did a fantastic job wth him and I promise he wil come up to see you when he is better biggrin.gif

30 January 2012 2nd day and he is still behaving really well, he loves his food, still tying to get him used to a kong, he’s as quiet as a mouse you don;t hear him at all, apart from the snoring ohmy.gif) AND he loves sausages. I gave him a wubba topy and he loves it, he stole one of Fudge’s tennis balls which was lying beside his crate and it’s now in beside him too, he’s a wee star, I would like to say a big thankyou on Piobaireachd’s behalf to all the lovely people who have donated alredy even before the auction has started, we even have had a donaton all the way from the USA, Piobaireachd has now gone global ohmy.gif) will update soon.

1 February 2012 Well that’s 1 week of crate rest down 5 still to go, not a complaint from Piobaireachd, he has finished his AB’s and still has 10 pain tabs left, he is a wee star when he takes his tablets I put them in a small cocktail sausage and he takes it no problem, I bought him a rubber bone yeterday which you can stuff food along the side as he still has not got the hang of kongs, he seemed to be able to …get the food out of this. My friend Anne, who came up to the vets with me to pick him up is visiting him today, I think Piobaireachd has stolen a wee bit of her heart , I don;t know how I would have coped with a manic springer having to have crate rest but this lad is so sedate and calm, I had him out of his crate to clean his ears yesterday and when I was finished he turned and went right back in again what a star. I will say that whoever rehomes Piobaireachd has won a watch wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif
