Update 2 October 2011: sadly we had to say goodbye to Floyd this week. He had a severe case of cardiomyopathy and we knew he had only weeks to live. Thank you to his foster carers Richard and Karen who made his final weeks very happy. Thinking of you all.
SRS are inundated with dogs and have been over the last few weeks. Most of our dogs go into foster homes for a short stay and then go into their forever home. However, for some dogs the fairy tale isn’t always possible and I wanted to share the stories of 3 of our dogs.
Ralph is just two years old and has been through a lot in his short life. We believe he has been kept in the dark and had regular beatings. He is a very loving little boy but his abusive experiences mean that he finds it difficult to live a normal family life and he is now in permanent foster with foster carers Tom and Shona.

Fergus is 5 years old and he has some behavioural issues which, his foster carer Marie is currently working through with the help of behaviourist Elaine Henley. Marie and Fergus are following a programme to help him learn new behaviours and hopefully in three or four months time Fergus will find a forever home with a family who understand him.

Floyd is 9 years old and has cardiomyopathy which is so severe that to rehome him into a new family situation would put his health at risk. Floyd will stay with his foster carers Richard and Karen for the rest of his life and will receive the veterinary care he needs.

SRS are extremely grateful to Tom, Shona, Marie, Richard and Karen for their willingness to care for Ralph, Fergus and Floyd and we continue to raise funds to support them.
It is all too easy for us to share all the successful rehomings but spare a thought for dogs like Fergus, Ralph and Floyd and others like them where life has been a bit harder but with the support of our fantastic volunteers they receive the love, care and attention they deserve.
Yes, Floyd was a very special dog and remained active and playful almost to the end.

Hi we sadly rehomed our dog charlie back in april, after weeks of tooing and throwing and wanting him back we left him to enjoy his new life with his new family. we have heard nothing back since that sad day and would really like an update as to how our chunk is doing.

Hi Colin,
Charlie was rehomed earlier in the year and has settled in nicely in his new home.
Floyd was my brother and his fiancee’s dog. Such a sweet natured, friendly and playful dog. I’m an ICU nurse (for humans) hadn’t realised that he was so ill. Hope the rest of his life is a happy one – I know he is missed by them – but was just getting too ill for them to cope with. I will be making a donation to your cause. Bert Bruce x
Thank you for your kind offer. When Floyd came into SRS our vet gave him a only a few weeks, Richard and Karen his fostercarers kindly volunteered to look after and spoil Floyd until it was time to say goodbye. Unfortunately that time came and Floyd passed away this morning. Our thanks to Richard and Karen for making Floyd’s time as happy and comfortable as possible.
Thanks for letting me know – didn’t get this message update until today (10th October) – have let my brother and his family know. Really quite uncanny that poor Floyd died only hours after I left my message. Rest peacefully Floyd
God Bless you all
